The morning had arrived and it was finally the big day. Several years ago, a young man by the name of Medashi Hanabira had graduated from the Academy at the age of 16. He had been one of the older graduates during the time, but he couldn’t of been happier that day. Even though he had never showed his true emotions that day, Medashi was grateful that he was promoted as a genin. Now, he was taking the next step towards the shinobi life and he was a bit anxious about it since he never dreamed that he would be able to participate in it.

In the hallway of the Hanabira household, Michiru, an elderly woman was walking towards a door where she had heard noises of things being moved around and falling over. Curious about what was going on, she had used small, feeble hands and knocked on the door loud enough for the person to hear. “Dashi-chan, are you almost done yet? You’re gonna be late for the opening ceremony.”

From the other side, Medashi was finishing plaiting the long strand of hair that defined his signature braid and tied the white ribbon on top of the black rubber band that held it in place. “I’ll be out in a minute, Grams.”

The elderly woman slowly backed away from the door and she made her way into the large family room where Medashi’s mother, Chirari was sitting on the couch fixing up something. Chirari had glanced at Michiru and gently smiled at her. The younger woman was just as excited about her only son taking the Chunin Exams and she couldn’t wait to see him in the new clothing that she had gotten for him. A few moments later, the bathroom door had opened up and the slowly footprints were becoming louder as they made their way to the family room.

When Medashi had graced his appearance to his family, Michiru and Chirari couldn’t but awe at the young man in front of them. The young Hanabira was wearing a dark brown, short-sleeved, chinese qipao shirt with white buttons and his old forehead protector from when he was a genin was worn around his left arm as always. he was wearing a pair of black trousers with a pink kunai holster on his right leg, bandages wrapped around his right hand and ankles, and his old pink shinobi sandals. All in all, Medashi had looked quite handsome and Michiru couldn’t help herself when she saw her grandson.

“Ohhh, honey, look at you.” Michiru had walked over to Medashi and cupped his face, getting a better look at him and smiling gently. “If only Fuyō could see how much you’ve grown. You look just like him during his younger days.”

“Really? You think so?” Medashi had always gotten that compliment from his grandmother, but he didn’t see that.

Michiru was now cupping her face as her high cheekbones were now covered with a blush. She was shaking her head back in forth as if she was crushing on her late husband all over again. “Oh, Fuyō…”

Medashi had always gotten a bit creeped out whenever his grandmother would think about such things about his grandfather. “Grams, come on now. No more daydreaming.”

“Medashi, there’s something I want to give to you before you go.” Chirari called to Medashi, grabbing the young man attention.

“Hmmm? What’s that?”

The Hanabira woman walked up to Medashi and she had held up a pink rope and it had three pouches with already filled cherry blossom petals inside it. When she was close enough, Chirari had tied it around Medashi’s waist. “Here.”

Slightly confused, Medashi had turned to her and asked, “Mother, that’s yours, isn’t it?”

“Yes it is and I want you to wear it for good luck.” Chirari answered and she had pressed a soft kiss on her son’s forehead. She believed in her son and she wanted him to know that. “Beat all your adversaries, honey and show them what a Hanabira can do.” There was so much love and tenderness in the room and Medashi was starting to feel as if something was about to possess him and make him act out of character. Nothing of the sort happened and he smiled at both his mother and grandmother.

“Thanks, Mother, and you too, Grams.” The Hanabira boy had walked towards the door that had lead outside, ready to take on and overcome the Chunin Exams. Calloused hands gripped the door to open it, but the stoic young man had turned around and grinned genuinely at the women that he cherished with all his heart. With a simple wave, he said, “Well, I’m off!”

When the door had finally closed, Chirari had turned away and she had knowing smirk on her delicate features. She knew that her son was not gonna have any problems in general. ’Do your best, Medashi...’

The stoic Hanabira boy was now running down the crowded streets where most of the examinees for the Chunin Exams were waiting outside of the Academy. Some of the examinees were walking inside the Academy while some had hung around and talked with their partners and friends about the event. Medashi had already knew who his partners would be on account of they had released the Chunin Exams squads a few days ago. He had remembered who they were: Gen of the Tenkou Clan and Aisho Fujite.

The Hanabira had met Gen by chance through Kiyoko one day and all he could remember about him was the younger male had loved to exert his ‘manliness’ through various situations, so it would definitely be interesting to see how he would do in the exams. Aisho on the other hand was someone he had never met before, but he had heard through the grapevine that she was someone who was into magical girl comics. While he did not know what that meant, Medashi hoped that she would be a girl who would be helpful to them.

As he was getting closer to his destination, a familiar head of light brown hair and a small braid had caught his attention and said person had sensed him. Koichi, his best friend had turned around and grinned broadly at his best friend. Running up to him, Koichi had slung an arm around the Hanabira’s shoulder. “Medashi, where have you been, man? The opening ceremony is over!”

“Enough with the damn ceremony talk.” Medashi stated with annoyance, waving off the talk about missing the ceremony. He had heard enough of that from his own family and now his friend was getting on him about it. Maybe missing it wasn’t the best idea. “They didn’t talk you guys to death, did they?”

“Not really, but it would of been nice for you to be here. You had Kiyoko here all worried about you.” Koichi chided with amusement and this made Medashi look in Kiyoko’s direction with a blank expression. She was worried about him?

When the white-haired kunoichi had saw Medashi looked at her, she turned away from him with a tiny blush. Kiyoko was getting a tad bit irritable about this whole thing between her and Medashi and she voiced her opinion. “I wasn’t worried about him! I knew he would show up in time! Why does everyone tease me like that?”

Kanmuri Yuki-Byakko, one of the jonin proctors had came from inside the Academy and told all the other applicants to hurry up and come inside. From this notion, Koichi’s eyes had lit from excitement and he hurried on with his group. “Oh, man! They’re about to start! Too bad you couldn’t be with us, Medashi.”

Medashi’s brown had twitched and he cracked his knuckles from that statement, making Koichi back away slowly from the dangerous Hanabira. “Why do I get the feeling you complimented and insulted me at the same time?”

Paying no mind to her best friends’ silly banter, Kiyoko had walked to Medashi and she smiled at him. “Good luck, Medashi-san.”

Medashi had nodded in agreement and he wished her the same thing as she was making her way to the door. Kiyoko was twiddling her fingers together and took a deep breath before rushing over back to Medashi. She slowly stood on her tip-toes and she pressed a soft and gentle kiss on Medashi’s left cheek.

This took the usually calm and stoic young man by surprise and he was visibly stunned by Kiyoko’s affection towards him. When she pulled away, she  back away from him and gave him a ‘thumbs up’ gesture with a cute wink. “Knock ‘em dead.”

As the white-haired kunoichi had ran inside with her teammates, Medashi had blinked a few times and the moment that happened between them was slowly starting to set in. Kiyoko had kissed him and he touched the area on his cheek where she had left her endearment to him.

Coming from behind Medashi, a young man with tanned skin and dark brown hair that was tied into a wild ponytail had waved a hand in front of the Hanabira’s face. “Yo. Hello? Anybody home in there?” He snapped his fingers a few times and even that wasn’t doing anything for him.

After a few moments, Medashi had snapped out of his daze long enough to see his two teammates looking at him. Aisho, the girl who had short white and golden yellow eyes had looked at him and she couldn’t help but giggle from Medashi’s behavior. “You spaced out for a moment there.”

“Oh. Sorry about that.” Medashi had cursed himself again for letting Kiyoko catching him off guard so easily. He was gonna have to get her back for it sometime in the near future. “Should we go in? Failing before we even start is not a good look.”

“I’m with you on that one. Come on!” Gen had grabbed the wrists of both of his teammates and literally dragged them into the Academy building. Bot Medashi and Aisho had to keep up with him and Kanmuri smiled from seeing such charisma from the applicants. Shaking her head, she walked inside and closed the double doors behind her, locking them so no one else would come in.

Everyone was in their designated assigned seats and after the directions of the first test for the Chunin Exams were given, the test had begun. Everyone in the classroom were doing their best to try and answer the questions without feeling the pressure or even worse, making a careless mistake by answering wrong on the test itself. While everyone was steadily writing, Medashi had looked around to see if he could find his teammates.

Everyone was spread out in different places of the room and this made Medashi think that the proctors did this to prevent the probability of cheating. It did make sense in a way, but what he didn’t get was all the experience Jonin in the village were in the room with them. If it was to make them feel safe, then it was having the opposite affect on all the people in the room. It made them even more nervous.

Not dwelling on it no further, Medashi decided to go ahead and do the test. He twirled the pencil around his fingers and he looked over the test. “Let’s see. Here’s my question.”

’List three ways to identify if you are in a genjutsu and describe how you would release yourself or a comrade from it.

Medashi had smirked with triumph with the question and he began to write fluently on the test paper.

‘Well for starters, genjutsu is a technique that disrupts the flow of chakra into the victim’s brain by creating illusions of pain and trauma. Genjutsu is created when a shinobi controls the chakra flow of the opponent's cerebral nervous system, affecting their five senses. That’s how a person know when they are trapped within a genjutsu. They are several ways to break out of genjutsu, but it also depends on the will of the person trapped within one. Here are some examples of how this can be done.

1) A shinobi stops the flow of chakra in the affected person’s body by applying a sudden surge of chakra into the affected person. The technique used is called “Chakra Dissipation”.

2) The affected person uses extreme pain and trauma on themselves to break the genjutsu.

3) Those with trained eyes can break the genjutsu with ease, but that can only be done if the shinobi has gone through intense training with genjutsu in general.

4) Casting obstructing techniques can prevent genjutsu from taking place. This is only possible if the shinobi can sense the genjutsu beforehand.

5) Shinobi with dojutsu can also counterattack genjutsu with a genjutsu technique of their own. This action requires a lot of discipline and skill.

Medashi had set down his pencil and shook his hands free from the cramps he had gotten from writing so fast. He looked at the clock on the wall and he had about thirty more minutes left before the test would be over. Medashi had three more questions left to answer and he was not gonna lose to anyone here in the room because he had too much riding on passing these exams.

So much strength, pride, and worth was on the line and he was not planning to fail.

The sun was setting and the first test for the Chunin Exams were finally over, The majority of the examinees had left for the day, but Squad G were the only ones that were left and they were taking a slow walk home together. The three were approaching a fork in the road that would lead them to their homes and Gen had suddenly got a brilliant idea. “Hold on! Wait a minute!”

Medashi and Aisho stopped their movements to look at the Tenkou boy. “What’s the matter, Gen-san? Is something wrong?” Aisho asked, wondering what the charismatic shinobi could possibly want.

“Since we’re a team for this thing, let’s make our own little pact.” Gen suggested.

“A pact?” Medashi questioned, feeling a bit perplexed about how this came about in the first place.

“Yeah!” The Tenkou had stood proudly and smirked at his teammates with a confident smile. “Until the exams are over, we are gonna be known as the ‘M.G.A.’ and blow the other teams away!”

“The what?” Medashi and Aisho inquired together as they gave each other a look of confusion. “What does that mean?”

“It stands for the 'Manliest Group Alive’, duh!” Gen pumped a fist in the air and sparkles were literally flying around him. “Isn’t it the coolest team name ever?!”

Aisho chuckled nervously from the name and Medashi on the other hand looked unamused by it. The Chunin Exams were supposed to be serious and yet he was taking it like they were going on some treasure hunt or something. That was not going to work and Medashi was going to let him know that. “No, it isn’t. It sounds ridiculous.”

Gen was not one to give up and he heard from Kiyoko that Medashi was a tough nut to crack, but he wasn’t gonna stop him until he is able to make him smile at least once during the Chunin Exams. “Oh, come on! Lighten up a little bit! Let’s make out pact! Aisho-chan, you go first!”

Aisho blinked for a moment and she thought about what she wanted to achieve during the exam and she remembered the promise that she had made to herself. “I’m gonna succeed no matter what! So you better watch out, Narashi-kun!” She stated, holding out her hand and it formed into a tight fist.

Gen soon followed behind Aisho with his pact and placed his hand on top of hers. “I’m gonna show them that the Tenkou are the strongest out there!”

Medashi rolled his eyes and put his hand on top of Gen’s. Seeing the warmth and strength that radiated between his teammates had motivated him even more and he finally made his pact. “To prove to everyone that music can truly influence and change the world."

“One! Two!! Three!!!” Gen counted down and looked at Medashi and Aisho, who had nodded in agreement as the hearts were now in sync with one another.

“On behalf of those who don’t believe in us…” All the members of Squad G had used all their strength and they jumped in midair and they felt their spirits being lifted in this moment. “...WE SHALL PUNISH THEM!!!

Squad G was ready for the exam and nothing was gonna stop them.
